After learning of the #NewView Film Contest two weeks before the deadline via Instagram, creator and director RoNeesha, began writing and producing the short Blk Grl Sonnet. Originally a 15 minute film, RoNeesha accepted the challenge to shorten the narrative and to cast, produce, and direct this entire film within a week.

Blk Grl Sonnet is comprised of powerful, relatable and poetic moments shared through the experiences of a young African American female named Kiyata. Although, the film was written from a personal perspective, it was inspired by the black women from both reality and vast media perspective. The film itself was written to give recognition to the many "average", unique, beautiful, multi-talented and strong black women who have shared experiences with love, upbringing, education, their careers, and even their mental health.

The goal of this short film was to highlight that sometimes things just are not okay and for a black female who endures so much pressure to meet and exceed various expectations, sometimes its good to know its okay not to be okay but to still know the value of your worth.
